Firmly Rooted. Fluidly Present.

Welcome in.

Embodied Moments Counseling Services, PLLC specializes in 100% online EMDR Trauma & PTSD Therapy for adult individuals and groups in North Carolina.

Traumatic memories make it difficult to see the present situation for what it is. This isn’t failure - it’s protection from your nervous system. I help overwhelmed adults who’ve survived traumatic experiences remember with a felt sense of calm so you can embody your preferred ways of being and live with confidence.

Intentional Presence

At this practice, therapy is a space to experience yourself with curiosity rather than criticism, thereby enabling expression of sociocultural, historical, and personal values at the time necessary for situational adaptivity. Through trust, collaboration, and evidence-based treatment, we work to help you create the life you want.

  • Overwhelming Patterns: Persons struggling with anxiety, depression, perfectionism, body image issues, OCD, and ADHD.

  • Life Transitions: Helping adults ground themselves while balancing heavy responsibilities across multiple life and work roles.

How We Work Together

Healing from trauma requires safety and an intentional pace. Trauma and chronic stress is often trapped directly in the nervous system. To help you find a deep, lasting felt sense of calm, I utilize powerful mind-body and somatic therapy models:

  • EMDR: To safely reprocess traumatic memories and strip away their emotional sting.

  • Polyvagal Theory: To map your unique nervous system, helping you understand your body's automatic stress responses (like fight, flight, freeze, or fawn) so you can gently shift back into a state of safety and connection.

  • DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy): To build actionable coping and emotional regulation skills.

What is EMDR Therapy and How Does It Work?

When talk therapy has helped your mind, EMDR can help your body finally feel safe, too.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychotherapy that helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories. By using bilateral stimulation - such as guided eye movements or tapping - EMDR releases trapped painful memories from the nervous system, allowing you to heal without having to talk through every painful detail.

Pause. Accept. Respond.

Reconcile differences between answers to questions of: Who have I been?, Who am I?, and Who will I be right now?. Be on par with who you truly are.

Is Unresolved Trauma Holding You Back?

  • During an EMDR session, you will remain fully awake, alert, and in control. As you focus on a troubling memory, I will guide you through bilateral stimulation, such as side-to-side eye movements, light tapping, or auditory tones. You will notice various emotions, thoughts, or physical sensations arise and change naturally as your brain reprocesses the event, much like watching scenery change from a train window.

  • Traditional talk therapy engages your logical, conscious mind to analyze problems, which can sometimes feel like re-traumatizing yourself without finding relief. EMDR directly targets the nervous system and the deeper, survival-based parts of the brain where traumatic memories are physically stored. Instead of just talking about the trauma, EMDR helps change how the memory is stored, neutralizing its emotional and physical sting.

  • Yes, EMDR is highly effective even if your memories feel blurry, fragmented, or entirely missing. Trauma is often stored in the body as somatic responses, vague emotional themes, or hypervigilant states rather than linear stories. We can use your current emotional triggers or physical sensations as a starting point to locate and reprocess the underlying trauma network.

  • The number of sessions varies widely depending on whether you are processing a single-incident trauma or complex, chronic childhood trauma (C-PTSD). While some clients report a noticeable reduction in distress after just 3 to 6 processing sessions, others benefit from longer-term care. Our initial sessions will focus entirely on your history and building emotional coping skills before we begin reprocessing memories.

  • Because EMDR stimulates the brain’s natural healing processing system, it is common to experience vivid dreams, heightened emotions, or physical fatigue between sessions. This is a normal sign that your brain is continuing to digest and reorder old memories. We spend the early phases of therapy building robust emotional grounding tools to ensure you always leave the session feeling safe and stable.

  • Yes, EMDR is an extensively researched, evidence-based modality used to treat a wide variety of mental health challenges. Because it heals the underlying distress rooted in adverse life experiences, it is highly effective for anxiety, panic attacks, depression, chronic pain, and deeply ingrained negative self-beliefs.
