  • Credentialing Status: I am currently pending in-network status with Aetna and Blue Cross NC. Until my contracts are official, all services are considered out-of-network. In-network rates cannot be applied retroactively.

  • Your Right to Transparency: You have the right to a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of your care.

Navigating Out-of-Network Reimbursement

    The Basics of Superbills

    What it is: A specialized invoice that includes necessary clinical data (Diagnosis and CPT codes) that insurance companies require to process a claim.

    Reimbursement: Most carriers cover 30–70% of the "allowed rate" once your out-of-network deductible is met.

    Privacy Note: Submitting a superbill requires sharing a clinical diagnosis (ICD-10 code) with your insurance company.

    90-Minute EMDR: Please note that most carriers only reimburse for a standard 53-minute session. Sessions that require additional time are typically the client's financial responsibility.

    Your Reimbursement Checklist

    Call Your Provider: Use the member number on your card and ask to speak with the "Mental Health/Behavioral Health" department.

    Verify Your Benefits: Ask about out-of-network coverage for CPT codes 90791 (Initial Evaluation), 90837 (Individual Therapy), and 90853 (Group Counseling).

    Confirm Your Deductible: Ask if you have a separate out-of-network deductible that must be satisfied before they will send you a check.

    Find the Submission Method: Confirm if they prefer submission via their online portal, fax, or mail.

    Download Your Superbill: At the end of each month, your signed superbill will be available for download in your Client Portal.
